Digby Tap v Rotary Club Match Report

On a blustery, but for the main part, sunny afternoon The Digby Tap took to the field against their illustrious opposition, Sherborne Rotary Club who are the current district cricket champions!!

However reputation counts for nothing with our fine team as from the first ball Olly Wilson bowled the Rotary Club were on the back foot. Luke Marsh also opened with a fine spell to keep the scoring down and after the openers had done their bit Luke got star batsman/ringer Jonny White out, clean bowling him with a swinging delivery.

Next up our very own Chris, not quite Glenn McGrath, Hobbs and young star Jacob Wallis bowled tidily and with Jacob taking a couple of wickets the run rate came down. It was left to Brendan Wallis, Jim Donnelly and Nick Whigham to complete the bowling and this restricted the Rotary to 139 off their 24 overs.

Looking for a good start the Digby Tap openers nearly saw out the first over only for Pete Taylor to lose his wicket. It got worse in the next when overseas star, Pat ‘International’ Salmon was caught and then our other over the border star, Jim Donnelly, was bowled to leave the Tap 8-3.

Luckily Ben Tupman (22) batted beautifully, with a fine straight bat, (what a natural sportsman he is!) and then Nick Whigham smiting the ball to all parts before retiring steadied the ship. Luke Marsh (24) then gave it some ‘tap’ and Olly Wilson (27*) kept the score board ticking over. This brought the Tap in sight of victory and although there was a small blip as they fell to 9 wickets down it was left to the Landlords to score the winning runs off the last ball.

What a fantastic result and the Tap remain undefeated this season!!
